THE ADVENT WREATH

The Advent Wreath symbolizes the period of waiting for Jesus’ coming. The circular shape of the wreath means eternity, the continuing presence of God. The evergreens decorating the wreath symbolize everlasting life. Each Sunday a member of St. Luke’s will come forward to light the appropriate candle(s) on the Advent Wreath during the Processional. A brief prayer with a description of the symbolic significance of the candle for each week of Advent will be printed here.

SECOND SUNDAY IN ADVENT

Two blue candles are lit to represent our preparation for the  coming of Jesus.

Father in heaven, set our hearts ablaze to follow in the steps of John the Baptist. May we bring light and love to all we meet, that the darkness of sin and fear may be overcome. In Christ’s name we ask this. Amen.
