WEAVING A COMMUNITY OF HOPE

Members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church have opened their doors for the Hastings and surrounding community this March and April for an art project. Individuals can submit cares, concerns, celebrations, prayers, and goals for inclusion in a tapestry being woven on a member’s loom currently in the building.

“We’re inviting people to simply write out what is in their hearts or on their minds on strips of fabric,” explained project coordinator Bronwyn Clark Skov. “People can stop by the church to write and weave for themselves or send requests via email or phone messages. We’ve already received requests from Seattle, Washington, northern Illinois, and the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina via social media,” Skov added.

During Lent the church is open Wednesday afternoons from 4 - 7 pm for people to drop in, weave, pray, sit in solitude in our historically stunning worship space, walk the Way of the Cross, or converse with a chaplain. All are welcome, no exceptions. The tapestry will be offered for consecration on Easter.

The Episcopal Church is open and affirming and is prepared to journey in solidarity with those experiencing fear, uncertainty, anger, and marginalization. Worship services are at 9:30 am Sundays. St. Luke’s is located at the northeast corner of Seventh and Vermillion Street (US Highway 61) in Hastings.
